　来月１９日から、George Harrison のドキュメント映画「Living In A Material World」（監督：マーティン・スコセッシ）が公開されるようですね。(Twitter フォロワーさんから教えていただきました、ありがとうございました。）

 僕はビートルズの4人の中で、ジョージが１番好きなんです。多分AOR好きにとってはビートルズ4人の中で１番馴染みがあるからなんですね。ジョージの自己レーベル「ダークホース」から、駆け出しのDavid Fosterが在籍した「Attitudes」が２枚のアルバムをリリース、その流れからか、ジョージのExtra Texture (Read All About It)(1975), Thirty Three & 1/3(1976)等にFosterが参加したりしています。今回はそんなジョージの良きプロデューサーで、熱狂的なビートルズフリークで知られるELOのJeff Lynnの作品に少し触れたいと思います。この２人と言えばまず、「Traveling Wilburys」ですね。

実は「Traveling Wilburys」は各メンバーの在籍するレコード会社が異なる関係で、ウィルベリーという架空の兄弟という設定で実名を隠しクレジットされています。実際はというと、
と豪華な顔ぶれでした！元々は、ジョージの大ヒットアルバム「Cloud 9」(1987)をジェフがプロデュース、シングルのB面の作品を検討する際に集まったのがきっかけで最終的には上記の面々が集まりレコーディングした♬Hundle With Careがあまりにいい出来だったので、そのまま別プロジェクトとして始動したんですね。


　では、日本でも数年前にビールのCMでおなじみのジェフプロデュース、ジョージのヒット曲♬Got My Mind Set On Youを今一度聴き直してみましょう。

 しかしいつ聴いてもいいですね、最高の楽曲です！ジェフもプロデューサーとしても絶好調で、ヒット作品を連発、ノリノリの時期でしたしね。続いては、そんなジェフのELOでの懐かしいヒット曲を一つ。

 これぞ「ELO」サウンド！ジェフによる抜群のポップセンスで、プログレ的なアプローチもありますがトータルではかなり聴きやすいELOサウンドを確立させましたね。もしビートルズが解散せずにテクノロジーを駆使してアルバムを作ってたとしたらこんなサウンドだったかも知れません。（ELOは大好きなので、また別の回で改めて取り上げたいと思ってますので今回はこの辺で。。）

 余談ですが，ユニコーン奥田民生プロデュース,PUFFYのデビューシングル「アジアの純真」のサウンドアレンジはもう完全にELOでしたね。ここまで真似るとパロディですよね（笑）。
